Article Selected >> Impact of iService On-demand on your IT department
Our IT management would like to understand the impact that a hosted iService solution has on our network. Does On-to-One need any access to our network? Do ports need to be opened on our corporate firewall?
One of the main advantages of iService On-demand is that it's a completely web-based solution that requires no software installation and no access to your corporate IT resources. The primary components of the solution and potential impact your corporate network are described below.

User Access
Users access the iService interface via a web browser. All major browsers are supported, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. We officially support the current and prior versions of all these browsers.

Programmatic Access to iService for Integration

You can integrate iService with your other operational systems (including your website) via iService Forms or the iService Web Services. iService forms are https web pages, and the web services can be accessed via any machine on your network that can reach the Internet (HTTPS).

Retrieving Mail for Your Tenant (POP or IMAP)

iService can retrieve incoming email via POP3 or IMAP, including SLL. Most clients of iService On-demand simply forward their incoming email to local mailboxes on our mail servers that correspond to their email accounts that are monitored. This provides better performance for messages with attachments that need to be retrieved and eliminates an login required on your network. If desired, you can configure iService to retrieve message directly from your own mail server. When forwarding to our mail servers, you have the option to have your messages filtered by the Barracuda Email Security Service or you can bypass that network and send them directly to our mail servers.

Sending Responses From iService (SMTP)

You can send email directly from our mail servers, eliminating the need to any access to your mail servers by the iService system. In this case, you will add an SPF record to your DNS to notify the recipients of your responses that our mail servers have authority to send on your behalf. There will be no noticeable difference in these messages from those sent by your own mail server.

An an alternative, you can deliver the outgoing email from iService through your own SMTP servers. This can be done with or without SMTP Authentication.

For additional technical information about iService, see the iService Technical Overview.
